Saramsa Garden Gangtok Sikkim Flowers

When visiting Gangtok, an absolute must-see place is the Saramsa Garden Complex in Gangtok, Sikkim. It was set up way back in 1922!
Location of Saramsa Garden: The Saramsa Garden is not located in the actual city of Gangtok. You have to travel about 14-15kms from  Gangtok, on the road leading to Pakyong road.

Address of Saramsa Garden Sikkim:
Saramsa Garden
Gangtok-Pakyong Road
East Sikkim - 737101

At the entrance itself you can expect something beautiful when you look up at the lovely archway (see photo below)

Entrance archway

Do pay attention, too, to the walls along the pathway - there are lovely paintings all the way.

Paintings on walls along pathway
Quaint lamp posts

Paved pathway
The entire garden complex has well paved
pathways (see photo at left)  for comfortable walking, quaint antique lamp posts (see photo above right)
and everywhere - absolutely everywhere -
there is a riot of colours vying for your attention.

The garden apparently was first home to fruit-laden trees & was later developed to include orchids and other flowers. During our visit, we say lychees on one tree and different hued blooms with fascinating designs on the petals. There were even pretty pink flowers nodding their pretty heads over a pond, as though trying to catch their own reflections!

See the photos below and you'll know what I am talking about...

Are these lychees waiting to ripen?

Note the natural intricate design on the petals ~ fascinating!

"How do we look?" the flowers seem to ask their reflections!

A sudden burst of vivid colours greets you everywhere

Lots of green too amidst the colourful blooms

Well-manicured shrubs

And, finally, have a look at the picture-perfect building in the photo below ~ it is a residential building & not a hotel (but does have a restaurant on the ground floor) ~ Wouldn't you love to own a home here?!

Hotel Serenade Manor Gangtok review

Hotel Serenade Manor is not a luxury hotel, but has well furnished rooms with the usual phone & TV that is to be seen in any hotel room. The hotel itself has only about a dozen rooms. The rooms are comfortable enough with attached bathroom having basic toileteries. Mineral water and newspapers are available on request.

The hotel looks quite attractive from outside, as many buildings in Gangtok do, with pretty window frames. However, if you are aiming to get some scenic views from your hotel, forget it. There is no view to speak of! This is not a great disadvantage as the purpose of visiting a lovely hilly region is to get ecstatic over breath-taking views isn't it?! So only if you are not unduly bothered about views you could stay here.

Another minus point about this hotel is that if you get up early, you are unlikely to get any quick service (if at all) because it is a practically dead place during the early morning hours with no helpful staff around. A huge red banner outside informed us that pure vegetarian food & Gujarati specialities was available. Well, let me tell you, the food is nothing worth talking about. It is strictly Ok and very highly priced.

Room rates start at about Rs.1,600/- per day (taxes extra). Rooms available are Standard, Deluxe and Super Deluxe. You have to pay extra for laundry services. Transfer to and fro from the airport or railway station is NOT free.

Visiting Birla Mandir Hyderabad

One of the many well-know places of worship in Hyderabad is the Birla Mandir, so named because it has been established by the Birla Foundation. The marble temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, while there are individual shrines for the Lord's consorts, namely Andal and Padmavati.

A unique feature of the Birla Mandir, Hyderabad is that there are no traditional temple bells. It is said that the Swamiji who had consecrated this temple had insisted on the absence of bells so as not to disturb the meditative ambience of the temple premises.

Before you enter the temple complex, you need to leave your footwear as well as mobile phones at the counter near the entrance. After you have payed obeseiance to the deity, do climb up to the upper sections - you will get the best views of Hyderabad city from here.

Birla Mandir Hyderabad Temple Timings: 7a.m. to 12noon and 3p.m. to 9p.m.

Birla Mandir Address: The temple is located in the Adarsh Nagar area. You can reach there from Lakdi-ka-pul MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) station. The nearest railway station is the Nampally railway station (approx. 3kms.

South Food Corner Hyderabad restaurant review

The South Food Corner (SFC) restaurant's name as well as its décor is meant to look like KFC. It is a vegetarian restaurant with self service. The restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 7a.m. to 11p.m. Home delivery and catering services for celebratory occasions is also provided by SFC.
