Thiruvempaavai

Thiruvempaavai is a puja spanning ten days dedicated exclusively to worship the Indian God Lord Shiva. It is generally conducted during the months of December to January in Tamil Nadu.

During this time, beautiful kolams (rangoli designs) are created at the thresholds of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva as a welcoming gesture. As part of the festival, the story of Maanikkavasagar, the famous Saint who penned the verses of the Thiruvaasagam (divine hymns to the Lord), is also narrated to the devotees.
