Mysore Palace Tourism

Mysore Palace Karnataka India

The Mysore Palace, Karnataka is home to the royals of Mysore, namely generations of the Wodeyar dynasty. One of the best times to visit Mysore Palace is during the annual Dussehra Festival, when the Palace is lit up by thousands & thousands of LED lights. On the final day of Dussehra, there is a wonderful  procession of elephants and tableaux.

Visiting Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace is breathtakingly beautiful and extremely well maintained. No fading paint & cracked walls. Don't miss having a close look at each door before you step over the threshold of the various rooms in the Mysore Palace. I quite liked the Darbar Hall with all its glass-painted ceilings. The ceilings of the balcony had all the sun signs and Lord Krishna’s avtaar on it.

At the Mysore Palace you can also see Raja Ravi Varma's Famous painting "Light of Hope" where the lamp held by the lady seemed to glow even in the dark. Its quite an extraordinary piece of art! The other painitings that I liked were the ones with the 3D effect - from whichever angle the photo is seen the eyes seem to be watching you! We also saw a stuffed ram which looked very much like a live one.

The mirror illusion in one of the halls in Mysore Palace was quite a surprise. There are two mirrors facing one an other and when you stand in front of one you see 7 mirrors behind!!
